The Trader

A Christmas Story

The man who walked in from the snow left large tracks behind him, each footstep sinking deep into the powder.  The horse who followed behind him carried his gear, mostly all contained in one large bag tied to the saddle horn.  The man himself was weighed down enough.  He was a large man, bundled in several layers of clothing and a large coat.

He stopped in the clearing, his breaths rising up in small puffs above his head, and took a moment to focus his eyes ahead of him.  A small house and barn sat on the other side of the clearing.  Smoke rose from the house’s chimney.  Light beckoned from the windows.

Marker

A Halloween Story

“I see you there stealing glances at me from the other side of the fire. No need to be shy. You can address me. Yes, I am none other than Rupert T. Blackwell. Impressed, no? Oh. No? You haven’t heard of me? You must be very young, or is it that I’m very old.”

“What you are is transparent. I can see right through you.”

“Are you calling me a liar, sir, or a braggart? I assure you, I am neither. The fact is true that I’m a very famous fellow.”

“I’m being literal, Rupert. I can see right through you. You may have been famous once, I’ll have to take your word on that, but as I’ve been telling you for three days now, ever since you first appeared at my campfire, you’re a ghost.”

Just be aware that the text is subject, and almost guaranteed, to change. I plan to post some older stories soon.

The Guide to Palas

Savannah Jones lives an insular life voicing The Guide for the same virtual game worlds that she immerses herself in, ignoring society's technology access discrimination. When one of her siblings from the orphanage where she grew up contacts her, he offers her a chance to leave technology behind and explore an actual new world instead of a virtual one, even though doing so would mean leaving her adopted family and newly found loved ones behind.

The Dragon King Invites
You to Tea

The Great Dragon King Valred is smitten. Not only is the cause of his trouble ordinary, but she's also human. But, maybe she's extraordinary after all. She did yank him from the sky and fill his head with images he can't ignore. Until he can find out, though, he'll need to avoid being forced to choose a mate from among the other dragon kingdoms. Could a tea party be the answer?
